About Secondary Classroom Notes

Secondary Classroom Notes is a small set of practical notes on assessment, feedback and family communication for middle and high school teachers. Every piece starts from the same belief: students in grades 6–12 are developing young adults, and they rise to expectations when those expectations are clear, fair and backed by adults who follow through.

The articles cover self-assessment, standards-based grading, formative assessment, driving questions, teacher reflection and student-led conferences. Each one aims to stay useful year after year rather than chase the latest trend.

How these articles are written

• Research claims link to the source they come from, and the limits of that research are stated plainly.
• Advice is written for ordinary school days, not ideal ones.
• Students are written about with respect, as people capable of responsibility.
